Robust NTC Temperature Sensor for Electric Vehicles

NTC temperature sensor means negative temperature coefficient sensor. Usually it is composed of the NTC thermistor, wire, filler, metal housing, terminal and connector, etc. Here are the briefings of the components above.

1.NTC Thermistor: NTC Thermistor is the vitalcomponent, in which the NTC chip places an essential role: its resistance decreases with increasing temperature. Usually there are two different ways to protect the NTC chip, to coat it by epoxy or encapsulate it by a waterproof glass bead.

2.Wire: Wire is also an important component, and its main function is to connect the circuit and NTC temperature sensor. According to various operation temperature ranges, hi-pot test requirements, and application environment, different wires are available.

3.Filler: usually the filler is epoxy, which can protect and seal the NTC thermistor.

4.Metal housing probe: The NTC thermistor will be potted into the metal housings with ring lugs, or in cylinder shapes, which are made of stainless steel, copper, brass with nickle plated, etc., to probe and install for numerous applications.

5.Terminals/connectors:They are used to connect the control boards and PCB, etc.

NTC temperature sensors in electric vehicles are mainly for drive motors, charging piles, charging plugs, BMS, OBC, PDU, air suspension, etc. NTC temperature sensors continuously detect the real time temperature to avoid overheating or under performance.
